Project Overview

The project questions existing system of aging and care, which is increasingly driven by efficiency and profit, neglecting the needs and experiences of the elderly and highly turnover of medical staff. A friendly aging and care system are urgently needed. Medical schools around the site provide abundant and stable medical and nursing personnel.

A good environment enhances the living experience. Design is organized into clusters based on the needs of different group of people, fully considering different usage scenarios.

Concept

From a profit-driven perspective, institutions seek to maximize their financial returns. As a result, costs are often compressed wherever possible, and the primary concern is not how well the elderly live, but how much money is earned. However, For the elderly, what is most needed is a setting that feels safe, calm, and reassuring. And for healthcare workers, their rest areas are typically placed in remote and enclosed locations, which are neither conducive to recovery nor supportive of efficient work.

Strategies

By extracting the needs of the three main user groups, 10 functional areas were summarized and connected with each others. Since the whole project looks like a small community, I decided to study the types of urban texture, and apply them to the layout of the building, in order to make it appear more natural.

Functions Arrangement and Floor Plans

Based on preliminary analysis and planning, the layout of the floor functions has been arranged, as shown in the floor plan. Four types of rooms are specifically listed here to meet the needs of different groups of people.
